Friends in Christ Weekly Message
August 20, 2005

A body is made up of many parts, and each of them has its own use. That's how it is with us. There are many of us, but we each are part of the body of Christ, as well as part of one another.
God has also given each of us different gifts to use. If we can prophesy, we should do it according to the amount of faith we have. If we can serve others, we should serve. If we can teach, we should teach. If we can encourage others, we should encourage them. If we can give, we should be generous. If we are leaders, we should do our best. If we are good to others, we should do it cheerfully.

Romans 12:4-8 (CEV*)

In the body of Christ, each of us has a part to play. We are to use the gifts God gives us in the work of the church. We should not be envious of others or try to serve in a way we aren't gifted, nor should we sit back and leave our gifts unused. All the gifts and parts we play are important and needed for Christ's work.

We should be glad for whatever gifts we have been given and cheerfully use them for the good of the body of Christ. If each of us does that, the body will function well and can be readily seen as Christ at work in the world.

Are you exercising the gifts God has given you? Are you cheerfully living out the part God has given you in the work of his body, the church?

Bill Samuel
