Deep in my heart I say,
“The Lord is all I need; I can depend on him!”
The Lord is kind to everyone who trusts and obeys him.
It is good to wait patiently for the Lord to save us.
Lamentations 3:24-26 (CEV*)
This was written in a time of great suffering for the Jewish people. Jerusalem had been destroyed; perhaps a consequence of the sinfulness of the people.
In the midst of this suffering, the writer holds up the goodness of the Lord. Despite the difficult circumstances, the writer realizes he can depend on God, who is kind to all who trust and obey Him. He wisely counsels waiting patiently for the Lord to save the people.
In our own times of difficulty, are we steadfast in trusting in the Lord? Are we willing to wait patiently for the Lord to save us?
