Friends in Christ Weekly Message
November 10, 2001

I know that my Redeemer lives
Job 19:25a (NIV*)

Scholars debate about just what this meant in its Old Testament context. Who is the Redeemer about which Job speaks? But from a New Testament perspective, its meaning appears much clearer.

The very same God that spins things in orbit
Runs to the weary, the worn and the weak.
And the same gentle hands that hold me when I'm broken
They conquered death to bring me victory.

I know my redeemer lives
Let all creation testify
Let this life within me cry
I know my redeemer lives

For Christians, our thoughts quickly turn to Jesus Christ when we hear about our redeemer living. We can put a name to our reason for hope.

No matter how difficult life may seem or what we face, we can turn to those "gentle hands that hold me when I'm broken." No matter how strong evil may seem, we can have confidence that ultimate victory belongs to the One who conquered death.

When I hear Nicole C. Mullen sing Redeemer, I tend to turn up the volume and sing along loudly. For my heart cries out in gratitude for the good news that I have a redeemer who lives, who holds me when I'm broken and who died to bring me victory. I know my redeemer lives!
