Friends in Christ Weekly Message
November 2, 2001

Before I confessed my sins,
my bones felt limp, and I groaned all day long.
Night and day your hand weighed heavily on me,
and my strength was gone as in the summer heat.

So I confessed my sins and told them all to you.
I said, "I'll tell the Lord each one of my sins."
Then you forgave me and took away my guilt.

We worship you, Lord, and we should always pray
whenever we find out that we have sinned.
Then we won't be swept away by a raging flood.
You are my hiding place! You protect me from trouble,
and you put songs in my heart because you have saved me.
Psalm 32:3-7 (CEV*)

I don't know about you, but I have trouble truly admitting my own wrong behaviors and attitudes. It sounds to me from this psalm of David that he did too.

Our sins don't only hurt others; they hurt us too. They become weights on our lives. They drag us down.

David found the way to relieve this burden. He confessed his sins to God. He was forgiven and the weight of his sins was lifted off of him. He wrote of this to help others. And the same theme is repeated over and over in the Bible because we need to hear it so much.

If we practice this, we will find safety and joy. Dear Lord, may I remember this and live out the truth in this psalm. And, dear friends, may you do so as well.
