Friends in Christ Weekly Message
February 26, 2011

GOD, I'm not trying to rule the roost,
I don't want to be king of the mountain.
I haven't meddled where I have no business
     or fantasized grandiose plans.

I've kept my feet on the ground,
     I've cultivated a quiet heart.
Like a baby content in its mother's arms,
my soul is a baby content.

Psalm 131:1-2 (Message*)

I don't know about you, but I know I have meddled where I have no business and fantasized grandiose plans. And you know what? That never worked out very well.

The times when I have succeeded in keeping my feet on the ground and cultivating a quiet heart, I have found a contentment. When I am content to leave God in control, I have a peace that is nowhere to be found when I am trying to control things.

I think this scripture is a good reminder of our need for humility. We actually achieve more when we are content with who we are, recognizing who God is and putting our trust wholly in God.

Bill Samuel
