Friends in Christ Weekly Message
August 18, 2007

Be fair to the poor and to orphans.
Defend the helpless and everyone in need.
Rescue the weak and homeless
from the powerful hands of heartless people.
Psalm 82:3-4 (CEV*)

If we are God's people, we should share God's concerns. This is just one of numerous passages in scripture in which God's concern for the poor, the weak and the oppressed is expressed.

Our faith should lead us to lend a helping hand to those mired in difficult circumstances. Our hearts should be filled with compassion as God's is. And not only should we personally help those in need, but God calls on us to speak out for them before those in power.

How do you help those who are poor, weak and/or oppressed? Are you interceding for them with those in powerful positions?
