Friends in Christ Weekly Message
August 4, 2007

Speaking to the people, he went on, “Take care! Protect yourself against the least bit of greed. Life is not defined by what you have, even when you have a lot.”
Luke 12:15 (Message*)

For those of us in very affluent countries, even if our circumstances are very modest by the standards of our own country, they are incredibly luxurious compared to the life circumstances of the majority of the world's people. When examining ourselves for greed, we need to not only look at how our lifestyle would be viewed by those around us, but what it means for the world's poor.

What effect does the way we live have on the lives of those who don't have enough to eat, adequate clean water, or adequate housing? Are we using the resources that come into our hands in ways that glorify God and His concern for the poor and oppressed?

Bill Samuel
