But when the Friend comes, the Spirit of the Truth, he will take you by the hand and guide you into all the truth there is. He won't draw attention to himself, but will make sense out of what is about to happen and, indeed, out of all that I have done and said.

Do we find truth by spending much time reading the Bible? Do we find it through a study program? Do we find it by attending church regularly?

All of these things may be useful, but none of them by themselves will guide us into the Truth. Without the Spirit guiding us, these things may leave us frustrated in our pursuit of Truth, may lead to a very shallow understanding, or may even lead to serious misunderstanding.

If we allow the Spirit to take us by the hand, the scripture can become alive, not just words on a page we look at with our normal human faculties. We can sense the truth in what people trying to teach about God are saying - and where they have gone astray in their understanding. And we will steadily grow in the Truth.
