So, my dear children, don't let anyone divert you from the truth. It's the person who acts right who is right, just as we see it lived out in our righteous Messiah.
1 John 3:7 (Message*)
The main point that John is concerned with here is that if we are really children of God, we won't make a practice of sin. He's saying that it will show if we have allowed ourselves to be transformed by Christ.
It isn't about talking a good game or being able to spout correct doctrine or doing all the institutional religious things. It's about actually living our faith day by day, showing the love of Jesus Christ through our lives.
A good question to reflect upon would be: Can people see what Jesus Christ is like by looking at how I live my life?
