The Lord All-Powerful
will destroy the power of death and wipe away all tears.
No longer will his people
be insulted everywhere. The Lord has spoken!
At that time, people will say,
"The Lord has saved us! Let's celebrate.
We waited and hoped - now our God is here."
Isaiah 25:8-9 (CEV*)
I am creating new heavens and a new earth;
everything of the past will be forgotten.
Celebrate and be glad forever!
Isaiah 65:17-18a (CEV*)
He is risen! His resurrection demonstrates the destruction of the power of death. This, like the rest of the prophecies above, was accomplished by Christ although it is not yet fully realized for humanity. In fact, if we allow Christ to live in us, we can live with no fear of death so it does not have any real power over us.
The first passage is only one of three places in scripture carrying the promise that God will wipe away all tears. The Lord desires our happiness and the end of all our sorrow. We can experience the Living Presence now, tenderly holding us and bringing us through our times of sadness and into His joy.
Christ brings a whole different reality. Even while around us people are living in one reality, we can transcend it and enter into God's reality. We can live into the promises of God, and experience the glory and joy which the prophets and Jesus spoke about. We can, as the apostle Paul said, be new creatures in Christ.
Dear friends, let us celebrate the resurrection by living in its power. The promise is not just for the future; it is something we can experience in the here and now.
