Friends in Christ Weekly Message
June 21, 2003

Jesus asked his disciples, "Why were you afraid? Don't you have any faith?"
Mark 4:40 (CEV*)

God reminds us,

I heard your call in the nick of time;
The day you needed me, I was there to help.

Well, now is the right time to listen, the day to be helped.
2 Corinthians 6:2 (Message*)

One of the things faith is to conquer is fear. The disciples' fear seemed to be reasonable; their boat was being tossed about by a storm on the sea. But Jesus rebuked them for their fear because it signaled to Him a lack of faith on their part.

Jesus was there when the disciples needed help. Paul reminds the church at Corinth that God is there to help them too "in the nick of time." Now is always the right time to listen to God and be helped by Him.

It is so human to fear. The fear often makes sense from the world's standpoint. But we are called to be new creatures in Christ, letting Christ take away all our fears. May we remember with Nicole C. Mullen:

But when I call on Jesus
All things are possible
I can mount on wings like eagles and soar
When I call on Jesus
Mountains are gonna fall
'Cause He'll move heaven and earth to come rescue me when I call
