Friends in Christ Weekly Message
May 3, 2003

Why is everyone hungry for more? "More, more," they say.
"More, more."
I have God's more-than-enough,
More joy in one ordinary day
Than they get in all their shopping sprees.
At day's end I'm ready for sound sleep,
For you, God, have put my life back together.

Psalm 4:6-8 (Message*)

The world tells us to look for satisfaction in the accumulation of more material goods. But in fact that is an unsatisfying addiction. When we follow that path, no matter how much we get, we always want more. Contentment and peace elude us. We simply can't get enough.

What we really need we already have if we recognize it. We can enjoy "God's more-than-enough" no matter what our material state. This will give us more joy than anything shopping has to offer.

When we put our trust in God, we have inner peace. We recognize God's providence in our lives, and there is nothing to disturb our sleep. We rest in the arms of God.

Dear friends, let us resist the siren call to accumulate worldly goods; to always have the newest and greatest things of this world. Let us rest in God's provision, and trust God to take care of us. May we rest in God's loving arms, praising Him for his goodness and faithfulness.

Bill Samuel
