Friends in Christ Weekly Message
June 22, 2001

Why am I discouraged?
Why am I restless? I trust you!
And I will praise you again
because you help me, and you are my God.

Psalm 43:5 (CEV*)

Sometimes we get discouraged. Sometimes we get restless. The psalmist had the same experience.

How did the psalmist approach this experience? He reminded himself of his trust in God. This is also what we need to do.

We can trust God to guide us in the right direction. We can trust God to love us. We can trust God to be there for us, no matter what the circumstances.

When we really focus on God and how trustworthy God is, we are moved to praise. How wonderful it is that God is there for us! When our human friends are gone, not available to us right now, or no longer seem trustworthy, we still have a friend on whom we can absolutely rely.

Those who take time daily with the Lord usually seem happier than those who don't. It's not that they don't face difficulties in their lives. It's that they do remind themselves regularly that God is a trustworthy friend. This lets them face life's difficulties from an attitude of praise and thanksgiving.

Do you remind yourself regularly that God is your trustworthy friend? Do you spend time daily with the Lord?
