Friends in Christ Weekly Message
June 13, 2015

It's what we trust in but don't yet see that keeps us going.
2 Corinthians 5:7 (Message*)

We can't see just what is ahead. We are often surprised by what happens in our lives. Nevertheless, people tend to try to live according to what they expect to happen if they behave in certain ways.

So what are they doing? They are trusting that their behavior will result in what they want, at least to some degree. So this passage is not just giving advice for followers of Christ, it is stating a basic fact about human life. We have to have faith in something to keep going.

But this is written in the context of followers of Christ. We've been given certain promises. We know that we are likely to face difficulties in our walk with Christ, but we do it because we trust Christ and believe in the promises. So whatever the outward circumstances, we can trust that Christ has overcome the world (John 16:33) despite how things may look on the surface.

In what or in whom do you trust? How does this trust affect how you live your life?

Bill Samuel
