Friends in Christ Weekly Message
March 30, 2013
As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up and saw them - Egyptians! Coming at them! They were totally afraid. They cried out in terror to GOD.
They told Moses, Weren't the cemeteries large enough in Egypt so that you had to take us out here in the wilderness to die? What have you done to us, taking us out of Egypt? Back in Egypt didn't we tell you this would happen? Didn't we tell you, 'Leave us alone here in Egypt - we're better off as slaves in Egypt than as corpses in the wilderness.'
Exodus 14:10-12 (Message*)
When things look bleak, we are tempted not to trust the way the Lord has given us. The Israelites cried out angrily to Moses when they saw the Egytpians approaching. In their fear, they didn't trust that the Lord would provide.
Similarly, after Jesus was arrested, the disciples responded in fear by fleeing. And after he died on the cross, they were distressed because they thought it was over. It was only after they saw the resurrected Jesus that their trust and faith was restored.
Are we like that? Do we lose faith when the path which Jesus calls us to follow has some especially rough stretches? Pray to the Lord for a faith that is strong enough not to falter no matter the circumstances.
